TWO YEAR PART TIME

MEISNER TECHNIQUE COURSE

The Actors Door Studio currently offers a 2Yr Part Time Meisner Technique Course that takes students from Beginners level all the way to Advanced level.

This course is ideal for new, established or working actors who may want to train in the technique. They may have acting qualifications from other institutions and do not require Spotlight membership.

The Course is divided into 2 yearly stages, covering the following modules:

  • Acting Technique I,
  • Acting Technique II
  • Advanced Acting Technique

2 YR Part Time Meisner Technique Course Modules

YEAR 1

ACTING TECHNIQUE I / STAGE 1

Acting Technique I expands on the fundamental Meisner skills you have learnt in your Foundations course.
During this stage, actors will:

  • Learn how to connect with their emotions
  • Take the first steps to training their emotions
  • Develop their instinctive self
  • Learn how to connect ‘truthfully’ with other actors
  • Form an understanding of character ‘doings’
  • Practice scene analysis techniques

Teaching Modules for Stage 1 are as follows:

MODULE LENGTH

16 weeks, 2 x 3hr acting classes weekly, 1 x 1hr Repetition class weekly, structured over 2 terms

ACTING TECHNIQUE II / STAGE 2

Acting Technique II focuses on relationships. Specifically, this stage trains actors to connect emotionally with the other actor in the context of a relationship. (How can you truthfully portray a mother/father/lover/teacher etc.)
In Stage 2, actors will:

  • Gain insight and understanding of their own relationships
  • Develop techniques for relationship development in acting
  • Build on techniques learned in previous stage to establish deeper connections with other actors on stage & screen
  • Use of ‘as ifs’ & personalisation
  • Develop skills in emotional prep to help fuel performance

COURSE LENGTH

24 weeks, 2 x 3hr classes weekly, 1 x 1hr Repetition class weekly, structured over 3 terms

YEAR 2

ADVANCED ACTING TECHNIQUE / STAGE 3

The Advanced stage completes the actor’s training at the Actors Door Studio. It focuses on the development of advanced characterisation techniques crucial in the portraying of powerful, memorable and convincing characters on stage and screen. Actors will also learn specific and highly specialised performance skills that will help them launch successful careers in this very competitive industry.
Advanced Stage actors will:

  • Master use of physical & psychological impediments for character portrayal
  • Develop advanced skills in ‘telling story’
  • Master the art of characterisation

  • Advanced Scene Study

MODULE LENGTH

40 weeks, 2 x 3hr classes weekly, 1 x 1hr Repetition class weekly (terms 1-3 only), structured over 5 terms

RECOMMENDED MODULES

In conjunction with the Meisner Acting Course, the Actors Door Studio runs classes in voice and movement. It is strongly recommend that you take take these classes to compliment your acting training.

The Actors Door Studio believes in providing students with all the tools required in order to emerge as professional actors following their training. To supplement the actors’ training the studio runs classes, courses and workshops in screen acting, audition, scene analysis, accents and dancing throughout the year.

Course Delivery

The Meisner Acting Course is delivered through weekly acting classes that are run like workshops. You are required to prepare for the classes before you attend. You will sometimes, especially as you advance through the course, be required to meet up with your scene and exercise partners outside of class.
Classes are structured in 5 terms throughout the year. Each term is 8-9weeks in length. There are a total of 40 teaching weeks in the year for the Meisner Technique Course. You will be taking acting classes with students enrolled in the 2 Yr Part Time Drama Course.

Payments

Course fees are payable upfront prior to the beginning of each year at a discounted rate of £1,980. Monthly payment plans are available for the convenience of students.

Applications

To apply for the Meisner Technique Course, you need to submit an online application form. You will be invited to attend a 15minute face-to-face (either in-person at our Studio or over Skype) interview with the studio’s director, free of charge. You will be advised of the outcome of your application within a few weeks.
